Dr. Prue Wales
I am educator, researcher and theatre maker who has primarily worked in tertiary institutions in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong over much of the past two decades. As a researcher and playwright, I am particularly drawn to researched performance as a means of presenting and reporting data. I am a co-creator of the performance ethnography Alice Hoy is not a Building, a collaboration project with Christine Sinclair, Jane Bird and Kate Donelan, which investigated the positions of women in academia, as well as the challenges of creating a theatre aesthetic while maintaining the integrity of the ethnographic data. More recently, I have developed a series of scripts for stage and screen investigating the foreign domestic workers and their navigations of systems of power. My research generally focuses on issues of community, identity, subjectivity and education. I am currently based at the University of Melbourne.
